At least eight people were killed and 17 others injured in a knife attack at a vocational school in eastern China on Saturday. The suspect, a former student, has been arrested.
The attack took place in the evening at the Wuxi Vocational Institute of Arts and Technology in Yixing, Jiangsu province, according to a statement from Yixing police, which confirmed the death toll.
Authorities identified the suspect as a 21-year-old former student who had been due to graduate this year but failed his exams.
“He returned to the school to express his anger and commit these murders,” police said, adding that the suspect had confessed.
This latest incident comes after a deadly attack earlier in the week, where 35 people were killed and 43 others injured when a car rammed into people exercising outside a sports centre in Zhuhai, southern China.
Police identified the 62-year-old suspect, also surnamed Fan, who drove a small SUV into the crowd at the sports complex.
Fan was formally arrested earlier today. Authorities said he was initially detained at the scene but was in a coma due to self-inflicted knife wounds, which had prevented them from questioning him earlier.
