Hamas military chief Mohammed Deif and the commander of Khan Younis Brigade Rafa’a Salameh were the target of an Israeli strike on July 13, the IDF said. The pair, as per IDF, were in a low building between the al-Mawasi area and Khan Younis, in a civilian environment.Several dozen more Hamas operatives were also in the area of the site when it was targeted, IDF sources told Times of Israel. The IDF, as per Israeli media reports, says the strike was accurate and only targeted the Hamas site.Earlier, Israeli Army Radio said that the target was “very significant” and that the results are not immediately clear.Meanwhile, Abu Zuhri, a senior Hamas official, told Reuters the IDF’s claim that the attack on al-Mawasi had targeted Hamas military chief Mohammed Deif is “nonsense”. “All the martyrs are civilians and what happened was a grave escalation of the war of genocide, backed by the American support and world silence,” he said.
