Belarusian bodybuilder Illia ‘Golem’ Yefimchyk has passed away at the age of 36. Dubbed as the ‘most monstrous bodybuilder’ Yefimchyk weighed 340lb and was 6 feet and one inch tall. The behemoth boasted a 61-inch chest and 25-inch biceps. He reportedly suffered a heart attack at home last week on September 6. His wife Anna, reportedly, performed chest compressions while waiting for the ambulance. Yefimchyk eventually had to be flown to hospital by helicopter. He went into a coma at the hospital before passing away a few days later on September 11.
Illia Yefimchyk’s wife Anna spoke to the Belarusian outlet Onliner and revealed how she hoped the bodybuilder would get better. “I prayed all this time, hoping that Illia would recover…I spent every day by his side, hoping, and his heart started beating again for two days, but the doctor gave me the terrible news that his brain had died,” she told local media, as per multiple outlets. She also sent a message to her followers after Yefimchyk’s death and wrote, “I thank everyone for their condolences. It’s very heartwarming to realise that I am not left alone in this world, and so many people have offered me help and support.”
Illia Yefimchyk first went viral last year after his enormous diet surfaced on social media. It was reported that the bodybuilder consumed seven meals a day to maintain his gigantic structure. His diet, reportedly, included an intake of 16,500 calories every day and 108 pieces of sushi and 2.5 kgs of steak. His crazy meals enabled the behemoth to bench press 272 kgs and deadlift 317 kgs. The Belarus bodybuilder was also quite active on social media, usually posting about his workout sessions or diet.
Encouraged by a school teacher, Illia Yefimchyk was inspired to pursue bodybuilding by the physiques of Hollywood stars Arnold Schwarzenegger and Sylvester Stallone. The late 36-year-old lived in Belarus before moving to different countries including the Czech Republic, United States of America and Dubai. Yefimchyk’s target before his unfortunate death was to reach 380lbs. His fans often referred to him as ‘Gym Boss’.
