Donald Trump’s running mate asked Kamala Harris’ campaign if they will return the contributions made by Khosla to her campaign.
Former US president and Republican nominee Donald Trump’s running mate Ohio senator JD Vance lashed out at Indian-American businessman Vinod Khosla, accusing the latter for calling half of America ‘garbage’.
“”Will Kamala and her campaign return his contributions? Or will they continue to insult half of the country for the sin of thinking Kamala Harris isn’t good at her job?” Vance wrote on X on Wednesday.
He was responding to Vinod Khosla’s X post where the co-founder of the giant tech company Sun Microsystems, wrote: “Garbage is an understatement for MAGA extremists”.
Khosla was commenting on social media on a story by Associated Press titled Biden suggests Trump supporters are ‘garbage’ after comic’s insult of Puerto Rico.
Khosla, a billionaire and major Democratic donor, gave $413,000 (₹3.4 crore) to the Harris Action Fund, a committee backing Vice President Harris, in June. Earlier, he had donated $100,000 (₹82 lakh) to the same fund in June 2023, along with two donations of $3,300 (₹2.7 lakh each) to Biden’s presidential campaign, which Harris took over after Biden withdrew from the election.
Kamala Harris said Wednesday that she disagrees “with any criticism of people based on who they vote for,” reacting after President Joe Biden’s reference to Donald Trump’s supporters and “garbage.”
“I will represent all Americans, including those who don’t vote for me,” the vice president said.
Harris, the Democratic nominee for president, made the comment to reporters as she prepared to campaign in North Carolina, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin. Her words were an attempt to blunt the controversy over Biden’s rhetoric with less than a week until Election Day.
The tumult began Tuesday night around the time that Harris was delivering a unifying message in a speech near the White House. Inside the building, Biden was criticizing Trump’s recent Madison Square Garden rally, where a comedian described Puerto Rico as an “island of floating garbage.”
“The only garbage I see floating out there is his supporters. His demonization of Latinos is unconscionable, and it’s un-American,” Biden said in a campaign call organized by the Hispanic advocacy group Voto Latino. “It’s totally contrary to everything we’ve done, everything we’ve been.”
