Three Hindus were detained “without incident” on the grounds of a local temple at Surrey in British Columbia, Canada, triggering an atmosphere of tension in the community, as the authorities did not disclose the charges against them, officials said on Monday.
The incident comes as local residents had gathered to celebrate and worship at the temple.
“Details surrounding the arrest are still emerging, and authorities have yet to disclose specific charges,” they said.
The police presence around was temple was heightened as the officers moved in to detain the three young men, according to the witnesses.
The identities of the detained men have yet not been revealed, officials said.
What did the temple officials say?
A temple spokesperson expressed concerns over the detention and urged community members to adhere to patience as they await further details behind the incident.
“The community to remain patient as we await more information from the authorities,” the spokesperson said.
The Surrey RCMP said that the arrests are part of an ongoing investigation, however, they did not specify the case.
