Thierry Henry though questioned Kylian Mbappe’s ability to adjust to Carlos Ancelotti’s system at Real Madrid.
Arsenal legend Thierry Henry has highlighted the main problem in Real Madrid’s attack. The Los Blancos endured a 3-1 loss to AC Milan in the Champions League. The abysmal show from Carlos Ancelotti’s men at the Santiago Bernabeu sparked several discussions among fans and pundits. In a panel discussion on CBS Sports Golazo, Henry also reacted to the result. He even broke down a major issue in a video shared on X (formerly Twitter). “Thierry Henry brilliantly breaks down a major issue Real Madrid have faced recently, how Kylian Mbappe needs to improve and why Carlo Ancelotti is the man who can fix things,” read the post. In the video, Henry claimed that Kylian Mbappe’s lack of movement against AC Milan proved costly for Real Madrid during the Champions League clash.
Thierry Henry did not hesitate to single out Kylian Mbappe for Real Madrid’s slump against AC Milan. Henry pointed out how Mbappe’s attitude on the field was not appropriate for someone who was playing an attacking role. Comparing Mbappe with his Real Madrid teammate Jude Bellingham, Henry pointed out that the Englishman made the offensive runs during attacks instead of Mbappe. “We’re not asking him to play like Didier Drogba, but he needs to put in the effort to run and create space,” Henry said.
Thierry Henry questioned Kylian Mbappe’s ability to adjust to Carlos Ancelotti’s system. He observed that Jude Bellingham frequently dropped down to help his team defensively before pushing his team forward in the attack. Speaking further, Henry stressed that it was a matter of willpower and not skills. He demanded more effort from Mbappe as the ex-PSG forward appeared mostly static during the crucial Champions League game. Hinting towards some internal problems within the squad, Henry added, “It’s understandable that there’s frustration within the team.”
The 3-1 defeat against AC Milan marks Real Madrid’s second-consecutive loss across all competitions. They were previously defeated by Barcelona in the LaLiga losing the El Clasico by four goals to nil at home. Real Madrid are currently placed at the second spot in the LaLiga standings. They are nine points behind table-toppers Barcelona.
