La Liga giants Barcelona take on arch-rivals Real Madrid in the final of the Spanish Super Cup final on Sunday slated to be held at the King Abdullah Sports City in Jeddah.
Barcelona head coach Hansi Flick highlighted the importance of the fixture and voiced that his side would have to curb mistakes as much as possible in order to take on the Capital City club.
“We need to play for 90 minutes and reduce mistakes. Madrid are exceptional in transitions, and we have to be prepared,” Flick said.
“This is the Super Cup, a Clasico, and a chance to prove ourselves. If we win, it will be a huge victory for the club,” the German boss added.
Ahead of the summit clash, the Catalan heavyweights were handed a boost as Uruguyan stopper-back Ronald Araujo recovered from a hamstring injury that has sidelined him for a prolonged period just in time for the final.
Flick lauded the 25-year-old whose return to fitness will no doubt strengthen the Blaugrana defence, while also brushing aside rumours that the centre-back intends to move away from the Catalan outfit.
“Ronald is back stronger than ever,” Flick began.
“He’s an excellent option for us, very professional, and ready to play,” he added.
“I don’t pay attention to the rumours. I’m just happy to have him on my side.” Flick stated.
Barcelona were further propelled by the provisional registration of Spanish star Dani Olmo and Pau Victor following the Spanish National Sports Council’s decision on Wednesday after the two players faced complications with their registrations due to Barcelona’s troubles with meeting the La Liga wage gap.
“Yes, Olmo can play. He’s physically and mentally prepared and is very happy with the opportunity,” Flick said.
Flick called for his side to be focused and tune out any external noise ahead of the championship battle against their bitter rivals.
“I have told the team: there is only outside noise, you have to be cohesive and strong. It’s a great season, we’ve done well in general,” the 59-year-old added.
“We have to be focused. We played well for the club and we can do better. It’s what we want,” Flick boomed.
