Alexander Isak scored his 15th goal of the campaign for Newcaslte United and that too against Arsenal.
Newcastle United’s Alexander Isak has attracted Arsenal’s attention but the Gunners have not yet made any formal approach for the 25-year-old. Isak recently scored against Arsenal to guide Newcastle United to a win in the Carabao Cup semi-final first-leg. This was Isak’s 15th goal of the campaign for the Magpies. Isak has been in fine form for Newcastle United and he has reportedly gained interest from various top clubs. Former English footballer Alan Shearer, however, feels that Newcastle United should reject Arsenal’s attempts to rope in Isak. “No, is the answer. Who are they gonna go out and get that would come into Newcastle and do a similar job? We know that centre forward is the most important position,” Shearer told The Rest is Football, as per Mirror.
“He’s one of the reasons they’re sitting in fifth and in the semi-final of the Carabao Cup. You could go out and spend £50-60m on another striker but who? What? Where. They are really difficult to find. So when you’ve got a b***** good one, why do you want to let him go for any price? If they’ve got to sell for PSR (Profit and Sustainability rules) reasons, there would be other players I’d sell before I’d sell Isak for £150m,” added Alan Shearer who had previously played for Newcastle United.
Alexander Isak had also scored for Newcastle United against Arsenal during the Premier League meeting in November last year. Isak’s solitary goal had guided Newcastle United to a 1-0 win against the Gunners back then. Isak has been in red-hot form in recent times. He has scored 10 goals in his last nine games for Newcastle United across all competitions. Having joined Newcastle United for a club-record £63m fee from Real Sociedad in 2022, Isak scored his 50th goal for the club against Arsenal in the Carabao Cup semi-final tie.
Newcastle United currently claim the fifth spot in the Premier League standings. With 10 wins to their name, Newcastle United have so far claimed in the competition this season. Meanwhile, Arsenal find themselves in the second position on the Premier League points table. Arsenal are six points behind Liverpool, who have played a game more than the Gunners.
