Apple could have two new AirPods lining up with the iPhone 16 series
Apple iPhone 16 launch is expected sometime next month but the brand could also bring the new AirPods lineup along with the Apple Watch upgrades.
Apple is gearing up to release not one but two new variants of its fourth-generation AirPods. The tech giant will roll out the audio wearables as early as next month, according to Bloomberg. In his weekly ‘Power On’ newsletter, Mark Gurman revealed that Apple is working to introduce these new AirPods alongside other hardware updates this fall. The two variants will include an entry-level version and a mid-tier model, both featuring updated designs.
The new models are likely to replace both the entry-level Airpods, which also has the AirPods 2, and mid-tier AirPods 3 in the lineup. Apple could also adopt the USB C port for charging the regular AirPods which so far has been limited to the Pro version. This move aligns with the company’s efforts to move away from the Lightning connector across its product line.
Out of the two, the entry-level model will target budget-conscious buyers as it is an affordable option with basic functionality, while the mid-tier version with active noise cancellation could appeal to buyers seeking more advanced features. The active noise cancellation feature was previously reserved for the more expensive AirPods Pro. It is worth noting that this addition could make noise-cancelling technology accessible to a broader range of consumers. The Mid-tier version is also expected to offer wireless charging.
In addition to that, the upcoming AirPods 4 wearables might gain ‘hearing aid mode’ through an iOS 18 update that could combine Conversation Boost with Live Listen option.
As per sources, the introduction of the new AirPods will take place during a major event in September that the iPhone makers will host to unveil the new iPhone 16 series. Reports say the 2024 lineup will include the iPhone 16, iPhone 16 Plus, iPhone 16 Pro, and iPhone 16 Pro Max. Moreover, Apple’s mega event may also debut the Apple Watch Ultra 3 and a third-generation Apple Watch SE.
