Meanwhile, Farokul Islam, who is being said to be the face of atrocities against women, has been arrested by the Dhaka Police after pressure from various social media groups. According to local police, he was found involved in harassing women and beating them up.
At least seven videos came to the notice of the local police, following which Farokul was arrested. Farokul is an activist of the Bangladesh Islami Chhatra Shibir.
In videos accessed by CNN-News18, Farokul was seen getting upset over dresses of women and wanted them to wear burqa and hijab. He was seen publicly abusing and beating up women in Cox’s Bazar.
Dhaka University ‘Love Jihad’ Weddings
In another incident, Dhaka University was forced to cancel a wedding event in the main hall of the university. These weddings were reportedly Love Jihad and a screenshot of these weddings was shared on a group on Telegram saying they were being done to save Hindu girls.
Dhaka University later said in a statement, “Recently, reports of a mass wedding event being planned at our dormitories have circulated on social media and in the press. We were not informed about this initiative, and no permission was granted for such an event.”
This came after there were reports of one Hindu girl, Sushmita Deb, having been detained by Muslim boys. According to reports, Muslim boys were using the opportunity to convert Hindu girls. The Telegram group revealed that they planned to convert 11 Hindu girls by getting them married to Muslim boys.
