Asian Games gold medalist Avinash Sable will aim to make a strong statement in the 2024 Paris Olympics. The talented steeplechase runner who hails from an agricultural family was born in the village of Mandwa in Maharashtra. After completing his studies, Sable was recruited into the Indian army. He shifted his focus to running in 2015 and a year later, represented the Services team at the National Cross Country Championship. Sable won the team race and finished fifth in the individual event.
In 2017, army coach Amrish Kumar advised Avinash Sable to try steeplechase running. The young sprinter didn’t take much time to become a pro and broke a national record the next year by clocking 8:29.88 in the 3000m category. Sable became the first Indian male steeplechaser to feature at the IAAF World Championships in 2019.
The two-time national champion ran at the Tokyo Olympics. He failed to reach the finals, despite bettering the national record in the qualifiers. Sable won the silver medal at the 2022 Commonwealth Games before finishing atop the podium at the Hangzhou Asian Games. He also clinched silver in the men’s 5000m steeplechase race at the continental event.

Paris Olympics Qualification
Avinash Sable claimed his Paris Olympics quota with a sixth-place finish at the Silesia Diamond League event last year, reported PTI.
The 28-year-old clocked 8 minutes 11:63 seconds to qualify for the Olympics, the report added.
Recent Performances
Avinash Sable broke his own national record in the 3000m steeplechase for the tenth time earlier in July. He clocked 8:09.91 seconds and finished at the sixth place.
