A court on Tuesday denied bail to Bangladeshi Hindu religious leader Chinmoy Krishna Das Prabhu and upheld the sedition case filed against him earlier this month amid tensions over minority rights in the country.
Prabhu, a monk who led protests from the front against atrocities against Hindus in Bangladesh, was arrested by the Dhaka Police’s Detective Branch on November 25 at Dhaka airport.
Prabhu was barred from leaving the country and detained at the Dhaka Airport by the authorities, said sources, adding that he was taken to an undisclosed location.
Several people suffered injuries after massive protests broke out in Dhaka and other parts of Bangladesh over the arrest of the Hindu monk, who is known as a prominent leader of the Hindu group Sammilita Sanatani Jote.
The ISKCON temple authorities have urged the Indian government to intervene in the matter and speak to the Government of Bangladesh to convey that “ISKCON has anything to do with terrorism anywhere in the world”.
The temple further demanded the Bangladesh government to immediately release its leader and stated that they are a peace-loving Bhakti movement.
