This Christmas, décor trends seamlessly merge timeless traditions with creative modern touches.
Christmas is the season of warmth, nostalgia, and elegance, and this year, festive décor trends are taking creativity to new heights. From timeless themes to modern, sustainable choices, experts across the floral and lighting industries share their insights on what’s in demand for Christmas 2024.
Classic Themes and Modern Twists
According to Meeta Gutgutia, co-founder, Ferns N Petals, classic color palettes like red and green remain perennial favorites for Christmas décor. However, this year sees a growing preference for elegant combinations such as white and green, white and red, or sophisticated white and gold hues.
“A creative twist on the white-and-red theme involves pairing white flowers, such as lilies or even roses, with red candles as part of table centerpieces. Large pillar candles adorned with red bows also add a festive yet elegant touch,” says Gutgutia. For a modern and minimalistic aesthetic, golden setups are emerging as a popular choice, exuding style and sophistication.
Candles continue to be a staple in Christmas décor, but this season, they are being integrated into floral arrangements for a fresh twist. Stylish candles in unique shapes and sizes, particularly golden candles, are high in demand, while lantern-style candle holders offer year-round versatility.
“Fairy lights remain a charming way to bring warmth and whimsy to décor,” Gutgutia adds. “String them across trees or place them in glass vases alongside flower stems to create chic and luminous centerpieces.”
Another standout trend is the rise of bows and ribbons as versatile and artistic décor elements. While traditional red and gold bows continue to dominate, oversized designs are gaining traction for their whimsical appeal. Beyond Christmas trees and wreaths, bows are being used innovatively on centerpieces and table settings.
This year also sees the return of the Christmas Village as a trending décor choice. Miniature houses, snow-dusted landscapes, and fairy lights are creating immersive table centerpieces, mantle displays, and standalone installations.
Notably, there is a growing demand for sustainable and reusable décor. Consumers are opting for pieces made from natural and biodegradable materials like wood and cork, seamlessly blending festive charm with eco-friendliness.
“Our floral décor offerings include both fresh and artificial flowers, with Holly and Poinsettia flowers being the most sought-after choices this season,” Gutgutia says. “We also offer customized wreaths and garlands starting at INR 5,000, while our Christmas trees come in various sizes, starting from 3 feet with basic decorations. For a grander statement, we provide fully customized and decorated trees, including options in offbeat shades like pink and white.”
Creating the Perfect Glow
The festive season is incomplete without the warm and inviting glow of lights. Kunal Rohatgi, Director, Fos Lighting, highlights the significant role lighting plays in transforming spaces during Christmas.
“Lighting sets the mood, creating an inviting vibe and completely transforming the ambiance of any space,” says Rohatgi. “As the holiday season approaches, we see a surge in demand for festive lighting as families and businesses aim to craft enchanting atmospheres filled with warmth and joy.”
The focus this year is on creative and versatile lighting solutions. From string lights elegantly draped across Christmas trees and garlands to vintage table lamps that exude rustic charm, lighting adds magic to every corner of the home.
“Wooden and metal candle holders create an intimate and cozy setting,” Rohatgi adds. “Lanterns and fairy lights, on the other hand, bring whimsy and brilliance to centerpieces, wreaths, and even outdoor displays.”
The combination of modern lighting tec
ques with traditional Christmas elements allows for a perfect balance of elegance and festivity, ensuring every space feels like a magical holiday wonderland.
Blooms that Tell Stories
For Shalini Dugar, Founder of &Blooms, Christmas is not just a festival; it is a cherished memory. “I grew up in a city that celebrates Christmas as a feeling rather than just a festival, especially at Park Street in Kolkata. It takes me back to simpler times when life slowed down, and the holiday spirit filled the air,” shares Dugar.
At &Blooms, the aim is to rekindle these nostalgic memories through floral artistry. “We create Christmas trees out of teddy bears, chocolates, and flowers for a unique and festive twist. Our offerings include curated festive wreaths, vibrant centerpieces for family feasts, and delicate bouquets that capture the magic of Christmas.”
For those looking for something unique, &Blooms introduces the HollyHeart tree, a special festive arrangement available from Christmas through Valentine’s Day, designed for making heartfelt wishes.
“Beyond décor, we aim to become storytellers during Christmas,” says Dugar. “Every bouquet and arrangement is crafted to help individuals express love and gratitude through blooms.”
The Takeaway: A Festive Blend of Tradition, Innovation, and Sustainability
