When is Diwali 2024
Speaking to the Local18 team, renowned Devghar-based astrologer Pandit Nandkishore Mudgal clarified the confusion over Diwali date. He explained that Diwali is celebrated every year on the Amavasya of the Kartik month. This year, Amavasya falls on both October 31 and November 1, causing uncertainty among devotees.
Pandit Mudgal added that although Amavasya technically extends into November 1, Diwali will be celebrated on October 31. The reason is that the Amavasya Tithi begins at 3:12pm on October 31 and will end at 05:14pm on November 1, and after that Pratipada Tithi will start.
As Diwali is traditionally observed on the night of Amavasya, the celebration will take place on October 31, during the Pradosh Kaal (evening) and into the late night.
