Manchester City are reportedly confident about Erling Haaland penning a fresh contract to extend his stay at the club. Haaland is understood to have been offered a new deal that may make him the highest-paid footballer in the history of the Premier League.
The record is currently held by another Manchester City star Kevin De Bruyne who reportedly earns £400K as weekly wages. According to a report by the Mirror, Manchester City have been preparing a contract extension for Haaland that will see him receive £500,000 per week.
If the news turns true, the Norweigan striker will also become one of the top earners in European club football. Barcelona midfielder Frenkie de Jong leads the charts now with a reported weekly salary of £600K.
Manchester City have already discussed the potential deal with Erling Haaland’s family and his agent Rafaela Pimenta, claimed the Mirror report. The English club was said to have received a positive response and may look to extend his contract by two years.
Haaland shifted his base to Manchester City in July 2022 on a £60-million deal. He is scheduled to continue with his £375k-a-week salary for two and a half years. If Haaland signs a two-year extension, he will stay at the club till the end of the 2028-29 season.
As per the Mirror, Manchester City were interested in removing the £150-million release clause from his contract but Haaland’s representatives want to keep that. In a potential solution, the club officials may choose to increase the amount to £200 million.
Haaland has turned into a goal-scoring beast under Pep Guardiola. During his time at Manchester City, the 24-year-old has shattered several Premier League records. He is the fastest to reach 75 goals in league history. He broke Andy Cole’s record for the most goals in a single Premier League season in 2022-23 with 36 strikes.
Haaland has scored 105 times in his 113 appearances for Manchester City across all competitions. He has won consecutive Premier League titles and a treble in his debut season in England. Haaland last featured in a UEFA National League game against Kazakhstan and scored a hat-trick in the fixture.
