After being questioned by a journalist, Guardiola revealed he had scratched himself with his fingers. He further said that he wanted to ‘harm’ himself because of the crushing result.
It’s never easy to digest a loss, let alone a losing streak. It seems as if the frustrations got the better of Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola who was seen bleeding on the top of his nose during the post-match conference after his side’s 3-3 draw against Feyenoord in the UEFA Champions League.
City looked set to finally get back to winning ways on Tuesday night when they led 3-0 against the Dutch champions with just 15 minutes remaining at the Etihad. But somehow Guardiola’s side crumbled, giving up three late goals and drawing the game to ensure they are now an entire month without a victory.
The three-time Champions League-winning coach had a small cut with some other bruises on his face.
After being questioned by a journalist, Guardiola revealed he had scratched himself with his fingers. He further said that he wanted to ‘harm’ himself because of the crushing result.
Italian journalist and transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has now shared the conference’s clip on X (formerly Twitter). “Pep Guardiola on those cuts: “With my fingers… I want to harm myself,” Romano wrote.
Asked about those marks, Guardiola said: “Yeah, my finger. Here,” as he performed a rapid downward motion along his nose. “My nail.” Then he added with a smile: “I want to harm myself.” It was the closing question of the press conference and the reporter who asked the question can then be heard saying, “It’ll be okay” as Guardiola walked off.
The Champions League action at the Etihad Stadium on November 27 saw Manchester City dominate the contest for the first 70 minutes. An Erling Haaland brace and another finish from Ilkay Gundogan gave the Premier League side the advantage. However, Guardiola’s men ended up conceding three quick goals in 15 minutes, dropping crucial points in the European competition.
Speaking about the result during the post-match conference, Pep Guardiola claimed that the team wasn’t stable enough.
“[It’s] difficult to swallow right now. The game was good, we scored three and we could have scored more. At the end we are not stable enough to do it. We did a good game but then we were not able to control the last minutes,” said Guardiola, as per Manchester City’s official website.
Manchester City are now on a run of six games without a win across all competitions. They are next set to face Premier League leaders Liverpool FC at Anfield on December 1.
