Mohammedan SC and Chennaiyin FC played out a thrilling 2-2 draw in the Indian Super League 2024-25 at the Kishore Bharati Krirangan in Kolkata on Wednesday.
Carlos Franca was a handful for the Chenniayin defenders as the Brazilian forward looked to work the channels in the opening exchanges.
Mirjalol Kasimov, confident after his thrilling free-kick in Mohammedan’s previous outing, tried to replicate his curlers with a few outside-the-box efforts that kept Mohammed Nawaz interested.
It was Chenniayin’s diminutive and unmarked left-back who rose the highest to meet Connor Shields’s corner to hand the visitors the lead in the 10th minute.

Mohammedan had the perfect chance to equalise in the 27th minute as Lalremsanga Fanai was felled inside the box by a marauding Nawaz as the Chennaiyin keeper did not get much of the ball. The referee had no choice but to point to the spot.
Kasimov stepped up to take the penalty but his effort was palmed away by Nawaz rather comfortably.
Around the 38th minute, one of the floodlights went off but play continued after the referees and officials had a chat near the touchline.
With the half-time approaching, the game got much more physical as either side looked to get control of the ball.
In added time after 45, Attempt saved. Wilmar Jordan was sent free by Lukas Brambilla’s weighted pass down the middle. Padam Chettri went down to make a stunning save with his feet. On the counter, Lalremsanga flew down the left wing but his shot was well wide in the end.
Andrey Chernyshov decided to an attacking change as he brought on Adison Singh in place of Amarjit Singh. Owen Choyle prioratised defensive security Laldinliana Renthlei replacing Ankit Mukherjee.
Chennaiyin were the side who scored in the 49th minute. Kasimov lost the ball as Lukas Brambilla ran through the Mohammedan defence and poked the ball past a stunned Chettri in goal.
Chernyshov was not a happy man as he looked on helplessly.
In the 62nd minute, Joe Zoherliana had his effort rattle the crossbar but Mohammedan could get a goal back. Vanlalzuidika Chhakchhuak missed too an almost open net at the far post as he guided Franca’s cross just wide in the 71st.

With the clock ticking over the 90-minute mark, five to be precise, Manvir Singh broke the lull in stands with a brilliant finish into the corner. The Indian brought Makan Chothe’s cross from the right under control as he swivelled on the spot and put the ball into the net.
The Black and White brigade believed again.
There was more drama in store as Laldinpuia fouled Manvir inside the box. The referee flashed red and pointed to the spot again. Lalremsanga Fanai stepped up but this time Nawaz jumped the wrong way.
Mohammedan managed to get a point from a game they were losing up until the 90th minute.
