KBFC’s interim head coach TG Purushothaman has rejected the possibility of any drastic changes to the team after taking over the charge.
With the first half of the Indian Super League 2024-25 season coming to an end, the Kerala Blasters have had a woeful start. They currently sit tenth in the league standings with just 11 points from the 12 games played so far.
The club parted ways with coach Mikael Stahre on Monday, along with his assistant coaches Björn Wesström and Frederico Pereira Morais following a woeful start to the season. Now Tomasz Tchórz, the reserve team head coach and Head of Youth Development along with assistant coach TG Purushothaman have taken over the responsibilities for the first team.
Purushothaman, who hails from Calicut, will now be looking to make the most of his time as the interim head coach.
Kerala Blasters next face Mohammedan SC at home and Purushothaman has no plans on introducing major changes with his focus more on bringing the team together and delivering as a unit rather than singling individual or groups.
Big Changes On The Cards?
“One or two matches we have to go through that (being accustomed to changes). But we don’t want to go for any revolutionary things. We go, make a team and just make the team do their very best to get the three points,” Purushothaman said during an interaction with the media on Saturday.
The Blasters would hope to get back to winning ways against their latest opponents who hold a worse record than them in terms of points collected so far as they languish at the bottom of the table.
Skipper’s Message To The Players
The Blasters skipper Adrian Luna also remains focused on the task at hand. Despite the season not going as how he intended to, the objective remains the same, which is to give everything they have and go for the three points.
“The goal is pretty clear. We have to, as I said before, start collecting points tomorrow, there are beautiful opportunities to do that. So, we are focused on tomorrow’s game and that’s all I can tell you,” Luna said.
Luna also acknowledged the concerns raised by the fans but the hopes they will continue to back the team.
He also emphasised that the lack of returns from the team is not because of poor commitment as the squad remains focused on making the most out of what is left in the season.
“I understand them, but the message for them is that we need them, as usual. We need them to understand, we need to support the team and that we are giving in every single match our 100 per cent. Sometimes this thing goes your way, sometimes it doesn’t. But this is not about, you know, lack of effort or lack of commitment,” Luna said.
“We are doing everything that we can and of course, we need them there and I hope tomorrow, you know, we have the support of them,” he added.
