Jamie Lee Curtis asked people to help out in whichever way possible during her appearance on The Tonight Show by Jimmy Fallon.
As wildfires rage on in California, causing widespread destruction and forcing thousands to flee their homes, people are rallying together to offer help. Actress Jamie Lee Curtis is among those stepping up. Having personally been affected by the fires, she lost her home, yet remains committed to supporting those impacted.
On Thursday, January 9, the 66-year-old actress took to her Instagram account to share that she and her family are donating $1 million for relief efforts. She wrote, “As the fire still rages on and @calfire @losangelesfiredepartment and all the available first responders and agencies involved in fighting fire and saving lives are still hard at work and neighbours and friends are banding together to save each other, my husband and I and our children have pledged $1 million from our Family Foundation to start a fund of support for our great city and state and the great people who live and love there.”
The Oscar-winning actress further stated that she is in constant touch with Governor Newsom, Mayor Bass and Senator Schiff to know “where those funds need to be directed for the most impact.”
Meanwhile, during her appearance on The Tonight Show by Jimmy Fallon, Jamie choked back tears as she talked about the devastation caused by the wildfires. Amid all the fun and frolic, the actress was visibly emotional as she urged people to help the people in need in any way possible. Sharing that she lived in the Pacific Palisades, the area is among those that were hit the hardest by the wildfires, Jamie said, “Literally, the entire city of the Pacific Palisades is burning. I flew here (New York) last night. I was on the plane and started getting texts. It’s gnarly, you guys. It’s a catastrophe in Southern California.”
The 66-year-old continued, “Obviously, there have been horrific fires in many places. This is literally where I live. Everything — The market I shop in, the schools my kids go to. Friends — many, many, many, many, many friends have now lost their homes. So, it’s a really awful situation.”
In other Instagram posts, Jamie has shared some on-ground visuals about the extent of damages that the wildfires have caused in just days. The LA wildfires broke out on January 7, forcing around 1,40,000 people to evacuate and claiming the lives of five. Many celebrities have also lost their home to the fires, including Paris Hilton, Mandy Moore, Adam Brody and Leighton Meester.
