The Bidens hosted their final Halloween trick-or-treat event at the White House, where the First Lady came as a giant panda. But, it was the US President who stole the spotlight away from his wife as he jokingly bit a baby dressed as a chicken.
The baby was one among 8,000 people, including students and children tied to the military, who were welcomed onto the South Lawn on Wednesday (October 30) for the last time as Joe Biden leaves office in January.
In the video, he is approached by a woman, who had dressed her baby as a chicken. As he bent over to greet them, he jokingly bit on the baby’s leg much to the amusement of the baby and the guests. The baby does not seem to mind while the mother is seen making small talk.
First Lady Jill Biden was dressed as a giant panda as a “welcoming gesture” to the arrival of pandas at the National Zoo at Washington in mid-October, as per the White House.
Jill Biden further added an educational theme to the event and named it ‘Hallo-Read’ to help encourage reading. She has been a teacher for 40 years. Earlier, she read a short story about spooky pumpkins to a group of costumed children gathered on the lawn.
She and the President later ventured outside at sunset and spent about an hour handing out treats. Biden, in a suit and tie, dropped boxes of White House Hershey’s Kisses chocolates in the children’s tote bags while the First Lady handed out copies of 10 Spooky Pumpkins.
A large orange moon and a sign that said ‘Hallow-Read at the White House’ decorated the south face of the executive mansion. The decorations also included cardboard representations of Willow, the family cat who is rarely seen in public, and stacks of books. Giant pumpkin decorations flanked the door.
