Hailing from Visakhapatnam, 24-year-old Indian athlete Jyothi Yarraji is all set to script a fabulous feat at the 2024 Paris Olympics. Jyothi will become the first Indian 100m hurdler to feature in the grand event. Jyothi’s road to the Olympics was not easy. Her mother worked double shifts as a domestic help and a cleaner at a hospital in Visakhapatnam, reported news agency PTI.
“In the past, I did too much thinking, too much worried because of my family, my personal life and my background but I learnt a lot. My situation is really bad sometimes. My mom always told me to just keep going forward because we can’t stop the present, past and the future,” Jyothi was quoted as saying.
Jyothi Yarraji currently holds the national record of 12.78 seconds. She has already won a medal at the Asian Games.

Paris Olympics Qualification
Jyothi Yarraji is set to become the first Indian 100m hurdler to feature in the Olympics in Paris this time, as per PTI. She earned a spot in the Paris Olympics, thanks to her world ranking quota. As per Olympics.com, the qualification window for the upcoming edition of the event in athletics came to an end on June 30 but the standings were officially confirmed by World Athletics earlier this month on July 7. The article went on to claim that Jyothi claimed the 34th position in the women’s 100m hurdles category to be present in the top 40.
Recent Performances
In her latest appearance, Jyothi Yarraji featured in the women’s 200m trial final at the B&S Kurpfalz Gala earlier this year in May, as per World Athletics. Jyothi excelled in the 100m hurdles category having won the title B&S Kurpfalz Gala. In the first heat of the 100m hurdles, she clocked 13.36 seconds. Jyothi improved her performance in the final by registering a time of 13.06 seconds to secure the title.
