Amar said that the script is given less attention and the focus is on producing more content.
Actor Amar Upadhyay used to be among the most popular names on Indian television. He became a household name after starring in shows like Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi and Kasautii Zindagii Kay. However, the actor believes that it is not easy to survive on television anymore after the popularity of daily soaps.
Speaking to Radio Mirchi, Amar said, “Aadhe ghante ka episode hum teen din main shoot karte the. Directors pe itna pressure hai, itna load hai daily soap ke aane ke baad ki unko din main ek episode shoot karna compulsory hai (We used to shoot a 30-minute episode over three days. Now, after the popularity of daily soaps, there is so much pressure on the director that they have to shoot one episode every day).”
He said, “Agar director nahi de paata hai itna content toh uski naukri pe sawal uthta hai. Daily soap ka zamana nahi tha toh script pe zyada kaam hota tha, takes zyada milte the… Ab agar koi actor 7-8 take dedega toh phir usko replace karne ki baat bhi ho jayegi… (If the director cannot produce this much content then they can be replaced. Earlier, more work was done on the script and the actors were allowed to give more takes. Now, if an actor wants to give 7-8 takes, they can be replaced).”
Amar mentioned, “Director complain kardega ki yeh galat actor hai. Aaj kal everything has become so dicy… It’s so difficult to survive. You have to be damn good because there are 25 people standing behind you who will give 2 takes.”
Several fans reacted to the video by considering this as one of the reasons why television content is deteriorating. One person wrote, “Is that the reason, we are having senseless serials going on completed 1000 episodes…” Another added, “Tabhi to quality nahi aa rahi cinema mai. Fast food ki tarah fast content bhi hajam nahi ho pata.” Several fans agreed with Amar’s opinion but some also said that there is nothing wrong with expecting perfectionism from one’s employees.
