Sumona Chakravarti revealed that since actors do not get fixed monthly payments, banks hesitate to give them loans.
Owning a home in a city like Mumbai is a significant milestone. Recently, The Kapil Sharma Show star Sumona Chakravarti shared the struggle she went through to purchase her dream house. The Bade Achhe Lagte Hain actor recently shared that she managed to pay off the home loan for a “simple small apartment” in Mumbai. She described it as her “biggest achievement”. The 35-year-old actor shared that despite earning well, she had to struggle to acquire a home loan. She explained that since actors do not have a fixed income, banks hesitate to give them loans.
In a conversation with the Indian Express, she said, “I still remember how the bank guys were reluctant to give me a loan because I had no fixed monthly salary. Somebody with a monthly salary of Rs 20,000 is a safer bet for a bank, than an actor, since it’s a high risk.” Sumona Chakravarti made her TV debut with the popular sitcom Kasamh Se and has been working in the entertainment industry for almost two decades now. Her hard work allowed her to book her Mumbai apartment at the age of 26, it then took her a couple of years to pay off the home loan, considering the steep real estate costs in Mumbai.
She added that the COVID-19 pandemic was particularly difficult for actors who lost work and said, “As an actor when we have EMIs to pay off, it becomes a challenge sometimes, especially in a situation like Covid. So when I was able to pay off that home loan, by far that has been my biggest achievement.”
Sumona Chakravarti, who will turn 36 years old on June 24, asserted that girls should first prioritise their careers and then think of marriage. She gained national fame for her decade-long stints in comedy shows helmed by comedian Kapil Sharma. She was part of the ensemble cast in shows like Comedy Nights With Kapil on Colors TV and The Kapil Sharma Show on Sony TV.
Interestingly she did not join the cast of The Great Indian Kapil Sharma Show, which premiered on March 30 on Netflix. When asked about her absence from the show, she told PTI “I don’t have an answer to this.” She also added that she is busy “doing my own things, networking, and meeting people.” She will soon be seen in Khatron Ke Khiladi season 14.
