India men and women continued their domination of the 2025 Kho Kho World Cup on Wednesday.
Indian women touched the 100-point mark for the second match in a row on Wednesday, January 15, and secured a big win by 84 points over Iran to book a place in the quarterfinals of the ongoing Kho Kho World Cup in New Delhi. Later, the men’s team hammered Peru 70-38 in the third group match to maintain a 100% win record as well.
India came into the second group stage match after securing a big win (175-18) over South Korea, and Priyanka Hanumant Ingle’s side started from where it last left off to demolish Iran in a totally one-sided match. India secured 40 touch-points in the match and 10 via dream runs.
The match began with India’s trademark aggressive start, as they eliminated Iran’s first batch within 33 seconds. Ashwini spearheaded the attack, while Meenu continued her brilliant form with multiple touchpoints, helping India amass an impressive 50 points in Turn 1.
The onslaught continued through all four turns, highlighted by a remarkable 6-minute-8-second Dream Run in Turn 3, which effectively sealed the match.
Led by Wazir Nirmala’s tactical brilliance and contributions from skipper Priyanka, Nirmala Bhati, and Nasreen, Team India demonstrated their championship credentials with another emphatic victory, establishing themselves as the team to beat in the tournament.
The Indian women’s team, which is eyeing gold in the tournament, will wind up the group stage with a match against Malaysia on Thursday, January 16.
3rd win for men’s team
Continuing their impressive run in the tournament, the Men in Blue demonstrated their championship credentials with a dominant performance that showcased their tactical superiority and athletic prowess.
A strong start set the tone for Team India as they dominated the opening stages of turn 1, though Peru showed resilience with a brief defensive stand in turn 2.
However, the hosts quickly reasserted their authority through brilliant Wazir Pratik Waikar’s leadership, closing out the first round with an impressive 36 points.
The momentum continued to build through turn 2, with outstanding performances from Aditya Pote, Siva Reddy and Sachin Bhargo.
India’s dominance extended into turn 3, and by turn 4, the score had mounted to 70 points.
With this clinical 32-point victory, India not only secured their place in the quarter-finals but also sent a clear message about their title aspirations in the tournament.
