What could be more humiliating than a shambolic loss at your home to your eternal rival? Probably your rival imitating your club’s best-ever player’s celebration after scoring against you.
Barcelona’s Lamine Yamal added insult to injury at the Santiago Bernabeu after his goal against Real Madrid by imitating Los Blancos legend Cristiano Ronaldo’s ‘Calma’ celebration in front of the thousands in presence on Saturday.
Yamal, 17, has taken the footballing world by storm since making his debut for Barcelona last year. The Spaniard has taken over the mantle at Camp Nou, showcasing glimpses of his potential greatness with tantalizing displays of skill and composure for both club and country.
But, none showed more cojones and guts than pulling off the iconic ‘Calma’, a celebration that has haunted the Blaugranas in the past, at the Bernabeu itself as Barcelona netted their third goal against a gutless Madrid, who ended up losing the fixture 4-0.
Yamal shone all through the night with scintillating dribbles and razor sharp passes, as he glided through the wings of a deflated Madrid, and finally netted his own agaisnt Lunin, to become the youngest-ever scorer in the history of the Clasico.
At 17 years and 106 days, Yamal became the youngest scorer in El Clasico. He surpassed the record set by former Barcelona player Alfonso Navarro who found the net at 17 years and 356 days.
After the convincing victory, Yamal spoke about the confidence that Barcelona have rediscovered within and expressed their desire to clinch the La Liga title.
“We believe we are the best team in the world. They said we were beating only normal teams… now we beat Real Madrid 4-0 at their home,” Yamal exclaimed.
“We’ve proven that we can beat anyone”.
“I want to say: Visca Barca! Let’s go and win La Liga, we go for the title now”.
