Barcelona have decided to come up with a unique auction in a bid to offer the supporters an opportunity to connect with remarkable moments in the rich heritage of the club. As a part of the memorabilia project, the Catalan giants will provide their fans with a chance to obtain various historical items. It has been learnt that among the most prominent items, up for grabs at the auction, is the locker of Lionel Messi. As per Bein Sports, the item is going to be auctioned off at a starting price of $350,000. Apart from this, lockers of other ex-Barcelona players like Ronaldinho, Gerard Pique and Neymar will go under the hammer as well. Along with these, other special elements such as the penalty spots, and corner flags will also be available at the auction.
A report published by Marca claimed that the much-talked-about auction, which is going to be organised in collaboration with Goldin, will take place from January 23 to February 13.
The move is expected to provide a financial boost to Barcelona. The Catalan giants had recently tried to extend the registrations of Dani Olmo and Pau Victor but they failed initially. Olmo and Victor were allowed to play for Barcelona following Spain’s National Sports Council (CSD) allowing the LaLiga side to provisionally register the two players.
The move comes four days after the Spanish football authorities had rejected Barcelona’s requests. The Spanish football authorities had rejected Barcelona’s attempt initially and it had triggered concerns over Dani Olmo and Pau Victor’s participation for Barcelona during the second half of the season. The CSD said, as per Reuters, that the decision was “provisional until the final resolution of the appeal lodged by the club.”
“The CSD considers that the non-adoption of this precautionary measure would cause serious economic and sporting damage to the club and, above all, to the players,” the CSD added.
In their latest outing, Barcelona won 2-0 against Athletic Bilbao to qualify for the Spanish Super Cup final. Gavi and Lamine Yamal scored in the game to guide Barcelona to the final.
