The press officer for his conference conveyed that the English journalists would get responses when the head coach officially starts at Manchester United later this month.
Manchester United’s newly appointed head coach Ruben Amorim recently faced a tricky situation over his ability to speak English. At a press conference ahead of Sporting’s Champions League fixture against Manchester City, Amorim spoke in his native Portuguese throughout. He faced an awkward situation when he was asked a few questions in English.
Prior to his UEFA Champions League fixture against Manchester City, the press officer for his conference conveyed that the English journalists would get responses when the head coach officially starts at Manchester United later this month. But a journalist was determined to get an answer in English from Amorim.
The journalist even asked, “You could be a hero even before you get on a plane to Manchester. Has that crossed your mind?” Responding to it, Amorim said, “Mmm sorry, I cannot speak in English, no.”
Despite the journalist trying to get an answer in English, Amorim appeared to be determined to not change his decision. “Sorry… they will miss me in Portugal. So I have to speak in Portuguese,” Amorim added.
The journalist went on to ask, “They’ve had about 25 minutes in Portuguese. We want 10 seconds in English… It’s like a cold shoulder to all your English fans.”
As per Sportbible, Ruben Amorim said, “My communication at the beginning will be simpler because it is in English. I think I will have to spend three months… they say that is enough. The players will not be offended if I say that they are more basic. I give training sessions here in English.”

Ruben Amorim was confirmed as the new Manchester United manager following the sacking of Erik ten Hag. Manchester United decided to part ways with the Dutchman following a poor start to the season.
Erik ten Hag did guide Manchester United to the EFL Cup and the FA Cup triumphs in his last two campaigns at the helm of the side. But a dismal start to the ongoing campaign turned out to be disastrous for him. Ten Hag was sacked following Manchester United’s 2-1 loss at the hands of West Ham United. Manchester United are currently placed at the 13th spot in the Premier League standings.
