Russia said that its warplanes prevented two US strategic bombers from violating the state border over the Barents Sea on July 21. Moscow’s defence ministry said that it scrambled MiG-29 and MiG-31 fighter jets in response to the US bombers. The Russian MiGs identified the planes as two U.S. В-52Н strategic bombers. “Russian aircraft returned safely to their home airfields, the violation of the Russian state border was prevented,” the Defence Ministry added. The Russian jets carried out the flight in compliance with international rules on the use of airspace over neutral waters, it added.Russia has reported similar incidents before when its planes have confronted NATO military aircraft flying close to its border.
