Israel and Iran-backed militant group Hezbollah have locked horns in cross-border warfare in the backdrop of the Gaza war that erupted last October, displacing lakhs of civilians from their home state.

In recent days, the Israel-Lebanon conflict escalated after a widening attack on communication devices, including pagers and walkie-talkies, used by Hezbollah members last week. While Hezbollah accused Israel of planning the attack through infiltration in their international consignments, the Jewish nation has neither accepted nor denied the claims.

The ongoing conflict triggered fears of all-out war after both sides began trading rocket and missile attacks on targeted positions. During this week, the Israeli airstrikes on Hezbollah positions in Lebanon have killed 558 people, according to local media reports.

Thousands of families from southern Lebanon packed cars and minivans with suitcases, mattresses, blankets and carpets and jammed the highway heading north toward Beirut to flee the deadliest Israeli bombardment since 2006.

Amid the conflict, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu recorded a video message on Monday telling the Lebanese people that Hezbollah members are using them as human shields and urged them to heed Israeli calls to evacuate. He said that Israel is not at war with Lebanon or them but with the Iran-backed militant group.
