Israeli PM Benjamin Netanyahu blamed the opposition for halting UNRWA’s operations in Israel and the “occupied areas” after global outcry, as per a report. Netanyahu falsely told his ally the US that opposition MPs were the ones responsible for advancing anti-UNRWA legislation, as per an Axios report.US Secretary of State Antony Blinken had reportedly raised Washington’s concerns over the legislation during his meeting with Netanyahu last week. Netanyahu retorted by blaming the opposition and told Blinken that he should raise the issue with its leader Yair Lapid, reported Axios. While Lapid’s party voted in favour of the legislation, the bills were brought to a final vote by Netanyahu’s far-right coalition. Analysts say that Netanyahu possibly fears a rebuke from the White House and hence trying to shift the blame.
