AP Dhillon’s home shooting leads to one arrest in Canada, while another suspect, Vikram Sharma, is believed to have fled to India
Canadian police have arrested a 25-year-old man in connection with a shooting incident outside the home of Punjabi singer AP Dhillon in Colwood, British Columbia.
Abjeet Kingra, from Winnipeg, faces charges of discharging a firearm with intent and arson after shots were fired and two vehicles were set on fire on September 30, the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (CBC) reported. The Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) said Kingra was arrested in Ontario and is scheduled to appear in court on Friday.
Another suspect, 23-year-old Vikram Sharma, is believed to have fled to India, according to CBC. An arrest warrant has been issued for him on similar charges. Police have released his details to help identify him, as they do not have a photograph. The shooting occurred in September, shortly after Dhillon released a music video featuring Bollywood actor Salman Khan, with whom the Lawrence Bishnoi gang has a known rivalry.
The gang has allegedly threatened Dhillon, warning him to “stay within his limits.” Earlier this year, an RCMP spokesperson told CBC News that they could not provide any information on the gang’s ties to the shooting at Dhillon’s home. “We are aware of the claims that are circulating online, and though we cannot provide further details, the file remains very active,” Cpl. Alex Berube was quoted as saying by the Canadian outlet.
In August this year, Dhillon signed a major record deal with Universal Music Canada and Republic Records. Monte Lipman, the founder and chair of Republic Records, praised him as “an incredible artist” and “a shrewd visionary with a global reach.” The 31-year-old artist has been touring internationally and performing in arenas across Canada. Last year, he made history as the first Punjabi-language artist to perform at the Canadian Juno Awards.
