During winters, our taste buds often crave something spicy and fresh in the evenings. While people typically enjoy pakoras, samosas, and savoury snacks, Delhiites have a unique favourite dish — Ram Laddus. This delightful dish is perfect for the cosy winter season. Making Ram Laddus at home is quick and easy, requiring just a few ingredients. You can whip it up in just 10 minutes and serve it with radish salad and sweet and tangy chutney. Here’s the recipe to make this flavourful treat in no time:
Ingredients
For Ram Laddus
- Moong dal: 1 cup
- Chana dal: 1/4 cup
- Urad dal: 1 tablespoon
- Salt: to taste
- Black salt: 1/2 teaspoon
- Mango powder: 1 teaspoon
For Radish Chutney
- 2 Radish
- A handful Coriander leaves
- 1 cup radish leaves
- 1 inch ginger
- 2 to 3 green chillies
- 2 tablespoons Lemon juice
- 1/2 teaspoon black salt
- Salt to taste
- 1 teaspoon mango powder
- Asafoetida
For Garnish
- 1 teaspoon Sev
- Grated radish
- Chopped green chillies
Method of Preparation
- Begin by preparing the chutney. Clean the radishes and remove their leaves. Wash the leaves thoroughly and blend them with coriander leaves, green chillies, ginger, black salt, regular salt, mango powder, lemon juice, and water to create a smooth chutney.
- Prepare salad by peeling and grating the radish. Combine it with finely chopped radish leaves and green chillies in a bowl, mixing well to make the salad.
- For the Ram Laddus, wash the lentils thoroughly and soak them in water for 4–5 hours. After soaking, drain the lentils and blend them into a fine paste.
- Transfer the paste to a bowl and beat it well for at least 10 minutes to make it light and fluffy.
- Add salt and one spoonful of the prepared radish chutney for taste.
- Heat oil in a pan over medium flame and carefully drop small portions of the lentil batter into the hot oil using a spoon. Fry the laddus until they turn golden brown and crispy.
To serve, place a layer of radish salad in a bowl, arrange the hot Ram Laddus on top, and garnish with sev. Pair with the tangy radish chutney and enjoy this quintessential Delhi snack that perfectly complements the chill of winter evenings.
