Prime Minister Narendra Modi said ‘global ambition’ must match ‘global action’ when it comes to deterring terrorism and emerging theatres of conflicts.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi made a pitch for reformed multilateral forums pointing out that their relevance in the future depends on how quickly they can introduce reforms, in a veiled reference to India’s bid for a permanent seat at the UN Security Council.
Addressing the UN Summit For the Future in New York on Monday, he said: “For global peace and development, reforms in global institutions are important. Reform is the key to relevance”.
He also referred to the inclusion of the African Union into the G20 New Delhi in 2023 and India’s efforts to highlight the problems faced by the Global South at multilateral forums.
“While on one hand, terrorism continues to be a serious threat to global peace and security, on the other hand, cyber, maritime and space are emerging as new theatres of conflict. On all these issues, I will stress that global action must match global ambition,” he said.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi also made a major push for peace and said ‘humanity’s collective strength’ does not lie on the battlefield.
