The leader of the Islamist group that entered Aleppo has been killed in a Russian airstrike, Arab media reported. Russia’s Defence Ministry said its air force targeted Syrian rebels on Dec. 1 in support of the Syrian government’s army, according to Russian news agencies. Ahmed Hussein al-Shar’a, aka Abu Mohammad al-Julani, is wanted by the US as a Specially Designated Global Terrorist, with a $10 million bounty on his head. His group, Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS), formerly known as the Nusra Front, is designated a terrorist group by the US, Russia, Turkey, and others.
