Ruud van Nistelrooy was seen entering Manchester United’s Carrington training facility in a car along with Rene Hake.
Several Manchester United players have begun pre-season training following the summer break. The group of footballers, who reported at the Carrington Training Centre on Monday morning, included some big names like Marcus Rashford, Mason Mount, Andre Onana, Harry Maguire, Victor Lindelof and Antony. Apart from the players, two new members of the coaching staff were spotted at the practice venue. Former Manchester United forward Ruud van Nistelrooy was seen entering the Carrington training facility in a car along with Rene Hake.
Both of them are set to join Erik Ten Hag’s new-look backroom team as assistant managers. The club is expected to make the official announcement regarding their appointment after van Nistelrooy and Hake obtain their working visas. Ruud van Nistelrooy was reportedly approached to become the new head coach of another Premier League side Burney.
The legendary striker, however, refuses the job offer to join Erik Ten Hag’s coaching unit at Old Trafford. Another Dutchman Wesley Sneijder has already confirmed Ruud van Nistelrooy’s move to Manchester this summer.
Dragging newly appointed Liverpool boss Arne Slot and Erik Ten Hag into the discussion, Sneijder said, “They are both good coaches. Slot did an amazing job with Feyenoord and at United, they are very confident with Ten Hag. He has extended his contract, also Ruud van Nistelrooy, I just got the news that he will be involved. So I think they can do a big job because they have amazing players at United. There has to be a team, they need time,” as quoted by the Mirror.
Meanwhile, Rene Hake has previously worked with Erik Ten Hag at the FC Twente academy. The former Go-Ahead Eagles manager left his club after guiding them to the best-ever league finish in over 15 years last season. He was also reportedly offered to succeed Jurgen Klopp at Liverpool. Hake, however, was more interested in reuniting with his ex-colleague Ten Hag.
Sharing his excitement about the new managerial role at Manchester United, Rene Hake Voetbal International, “The feeling I have is difficult to describe, but this is, of course, a great opportunity for me. Working in the biggest league in the world, at one of the biggest clubs in the world. It is also a wonderful reward for me. Of course, I am grateful to Erik for this opportunity, but it is not about us knowing each other well. We just have to do good work.”
Apart from revamping the coaching unit, Manchester United are expected to modify their squad this summer. They are reportedly close to signing Bologna striker Joshua Zirkzee. Both parties have already agreed on personal terms and agent commissions. The Old Trafford hierarchy has yet to decide whether they will pay the release clause for Zirkzee or negotiate the transfer fee with Bologna.
