It’s raining goals in Madrid, but not in favor of Los Blancos.
Real Madrid are in the midst of a crisis with Kylian Mbappe failing to live up to their expectations and with injuries plaguing their defenses.
The recent injury of Eder Militao spells further trouble for the Madrid side that has already looked shaky, as the Brazilian is now ruled out with an ACL tear that requires surgery.
With chaos ensuing in the defensive ranks, an unlikely name has risen to the top of the prospects list to help Madrid fix their leaky defense: Sergio Ramos, the legendary Real Madrid veteran himself.
With Militao sidelined, manager Carlo Ancelotti is left with Antonio Rudiger as his most dependable option in the heart of defence. This unfortunate scenario has prompted discussions about reinforcing the squad with newer (or in Ramos’ case, familiar) faces.
Prominent voices, including ex-Madridista Guti, have also publicly advocated for the club to consider bringing back the experienced defender. Interestingly enough, it seems Ramos may also be interested in a reunion with Los Blancos.
Ramos’ social media activity has sparked speculation, as he recently liked a post featuring Guti’s comments regarding his potential return. Guti was quoted as saying, “I’d go for Sergio Ramos at Real Madrid right now. It would cost zero euros,” to which Ramos appeared to give an approving nod.
All of this may just be a momentary lapse though, as Ramos’ exit from the club was no pretty ordeal, with reports of fractured realtionships with president Florentino Perez being a reason behind his departure.
It also appears that Real Madrid may be hesitant about the prospect of re-signing Ramos, as they view the defender’s age and recent form with skepticism, particularly given that Ramos has not featured in a match since departing last summer.
In a career spanning over 20 years, Ramos carved himself a place in football history, winning the 2010 World Cup and two European championships with Spain as well as four Champions League titles with Real Madrid before going back to his boyhood club Sevilla to help them survive a tricky season.
But after his second stint with Sevilla, which lasted till early this year, Ramos has once again entered the free agent market and remains one as he could possibly tempt Madrid to secure his services again.
