Manchester United played out a 1-1 draw with Chelsea in the Premier League.
Manchester United legend Roy Keane feels the new head coach Ruben Amorim needs a longer contract as the team is still ‘average’. A lot has happened at Old Trafford since Erik ten Hag’s sacking last month. It was recently announced that Sporting Lisbon’s Amorim would join the Premier League side later this month. Days after the announcement, Keane suggested Amorim must get a longer deal to make enough impact at the club. “He should’ve signed a longer contract. It’s a long way back for this team. Look a new manager will come in and you hope he’ll get more out of this group but this is an average United team – all the stats back it up,” he said on SkySports.
Roy Keane pointed towards the lack of consistency in the Manchester United camp. He suggested that the club’s performances have been quite unpredictable in recent years. Talking about their recent 1-1 draw with Chelsea in the Premier League, Keane said, “We keep repeating ourselves, but you don’t know what you’ll get with them. Yes, they could’ve won the game but there’s also a good chance they could lose it. Not good.”
Roy Keane’s criticism did not stop there as he described Manchester United’s playing style as ‘boring’. In his SkySports interview, he added, “Even when you’re watching. I hate saying it but this United team are almost a bit boring. The lack of conviction with all their chances. Really disappointed, so flat, but from the manager’s point of view, this team are way off it in terms of getting back to the top four and competing.”
Manchester United announced Ruben Amorim as coach last week on Instagram. “It’s done. Bem-vindo ao Manchester United, Ruben Amorim,” the club wrote on Instagram.
As for Erik ten Hag, the Dutchman was sacked in late October after Manchester United’s 1-2 Premier League loss to West Ham United. Club legend Ruud van Nistelrooy was appointed the club’s interim manager amid the absence of a head coach. Manchester United showed signs of impressive form after the managerial change, beating Leicester City 5-2 in the EFL Cup Round of 16. But on November 3, Manchester United played out a 1-1 draw with Chelsea.
Despite taking the lead in the second half, Manchester United were held to a draw by Chelsea at Old Trafford. Bruno Fernandes scored for the hosts in the 70th minute. Four minutes later, Moises Caicedo found the back of the net to seal a point for the Blues.
