India ace shuttler PV Sindhu has revealed why she waited until the 2024 Paris Olympics to get married to Venkata Datta Sai. Speaking for the first time after her wedding, Sindhu claimed she was missing ‘stability’ in her life. It propelled her to get married in 2024 once the Paris Olympics had concluded.
“For me, marriage meant stability – the kind of stability that would help me perform better, “she said in an exclusive interview, as per Hindustan Times.
Sindhu further highlighted how performing at the highest level can be incredibly taxing on an athlete. She suggested that marriage provided her with a sense of security, allowing her to continue delivering at the top level.
“Competing at the highest level is incredibly demanding, and having that sense of security and support is so important. I was super excited! This new phase of life felt so special,” she added.
Venkata Datta Sai also spoke about his wedding and claimed that the time felt right for them to take this massive decision.
“For Sindhu, the timing felt right. After the Olympics, she wanted to settle down, find stability, and then focus on the next chapter of her journey,” he said.
Sai then emphasized how Sindhu and he hoped to build a future together.
“We both knew this was the right step because it wasn’t just about the moment—it was about building a future together,” he concluded.
Sindhu and Datta Sai’s marriage was an intimate affair. The wedding ceremony was attended only by their closest friends and family. Although the marriage was kept secret, pictures of the newlywed soon emerged online.
Indian Union Minister of Culture and Tourism Gajendra Singh Shekhawat congratulated them X (formerly Twitter) while sharing a photograph of the couple. Sindhu later reacted to her wedding news going viral on the internet.
“The hardest part was keeping everything a secret!” she said.
“But now that it’s out in the open, I’ve come to accept that my life is very public, and I’m okay with it,” the ace shuttler added.
Since winning bronze at the 2016 Rio Olympics, PV Sindhu has been the flagbearer of Indian badminton for nearly the past decade. She added a second medal, a silver, at the Tokyo Olympics in 2021. Shedidn’thave the best campaign in the 2024 Paris Olympics, crashing out in the Round of 16 phase. She lost 19-21, 14-21 to He Bing Jiao in the knockouts.
