Premier League outfit Tottenham Hotspur are said to have verbally agreed a deal for Bayern Munich winger Mathys Tel. The 19-year-old French attacker has drawn the interest of several clubs in England’s top flight. Big names like Arsenal, Chelsea and Manchester United have been reportedly monitoring his situation in Germany in the final days of the January transfer window. Amid the ongoing speculations, The Times has reported that Spurs have reached a verbal agreement with Bayern Munich over Tel. The young French forward is now expected to move before Monday’s deadline.
The proposed bid from Tottenham for Mathys Tel is believed to include clauses rather than a flat fee. Bayern Munich preferred to send the youngster to England on loan but Tel has been persuaded to sign a permanent deal after being motivated by the massive offer. Another reason for Tel’s decision to leave is the lack of playing time at Bayern Munich. The Frenchman’s priority is to play regular minutes which could favour Tottenham despite their ongoing nightmare season in the Premier League. The Agne Postecoglou-coached side has yet to sign an outfield player this month. They recently missed out on Paris Saint-Germain winger Randal Kolo Muani who preferred a move to Juventus on loan.
With Mathys Tel making it clear that he wants to leave, Bayern Munich are now believed to be considering all their options. Arsenal, Chelsea, Manchester United and Aston Villa have also enquired about Tel’s availability. It remains to be seen if any of them can match Tottenham’s offer ahead of deadline day. Spurs pushed ahead with an aggressive deal with hopes to beat the competition. Tottenham also have a positive working relationship with the Bavarian giants after agreeing deals for both Harry Kane and Eric Dier in the last two years.
While Mathys Tel prefers to play on the left wing, his dynamic qualities also allow him to be deployed in the middle. The teenager informed Bayern Munich last month that he wanted to stay and fight for his place but has now seemingly changed his mind after making two appearances for the Bundesliga outfit since Christmas. Tel was swooped in by Bayern Munich three years ago in 2022 for a reported fee of $30.6 million. The Frenchman moved to Germany from Ligue 1 side Lens as a 17-year-old. Should he leave for England in the next few days, Tel will hope to make an early impact to earn his place in the playing XI for Tottenham.
