The US military claimed to have destroyed two Houthi vessels in the Red Sea on August 13. US Central Command, in a statement, said, “These vessels presented a clear and imminent threat to U.S. and coalition forces and merchant vessels in the region.” The attack came a day after the US and UK carried out an airstrike on Yemeni rebel-held Kamaran Island in the Red Sea on August 12. Meanwhile, an Iran-backed militant group also launched an attack on a US airbase in a gas field in Syria’s Deir al-Zour province. However, Reuters, citing two US officials, reported that the shells did not hit the facility.
