WhatsApp has announced a slew of new updates for its calling features this holiday season. The messaging app says over 2 billion calls are made every single day through the platform, and now it is bringing new tools for the desktop and mobile users that will make calling more interactive and easy.

Call Group Members Personally: How many times have you wanted to call one person from a group and not disturb the others? WhatsApp is finally giving you that option with the new update. You can select that specific person and call them rather than inviting all the members from the group.
Video calls with effects: WhatsApp video calls will now have the option to add effects while you are on the call. These are similar to the effects that you add on Insta videos. The platform is offering 10 new effects like puppy ears, underwater scenes and wearing these cool goggles.
Better way to call on desktop: WhatsApp desktop version is getting an improved calling tab which offers one-click access to all the features like starting a call, creating a call link, and even dialing a number.
Video calls in higher quality: WhatsApp video calls with friends and in groups will now get higher quality, which means you can see them clearly. This is applicable for video calls on the desktop app and mobile.
WhatsApp faced a major outage earlier this week, which was confirmed by the platform through a post on X. All the Meta-owned platforms like Instagram and Facebook were also down on the same day, which suggests a major technical issue might have caused this down time for billions.
