Additionally, the UN General Assembly also emphasises on improving the dissemination of information among the youth, explaining that it would lead to greater awareness about developmental problems.
World Development Information Day 2024: History And Significance
In 1972, the United Nations General Assembly founded the World Development Information Day to draw world attention towards the development problems and the need to strengthen international cooperation. At the time, the assembly decided the date to intentionally collide with the United Nations Day on October 24.
As per the UN, one of the most essential aspects of the work on development includes the mobilisation of public opinion in support of set objectives and policies.
While governments of the more advanced countries must intensify their efforts to deepen public understanding, developing countries also need to work on making people aware of the benefits and sacrifices involved, ensuring full participation in achieving development goals.
Considering the significance of public opinion mobilisation for development, the General Assembly established the World Development Information Day to address the problems and strengthen international cooperation.
It is also believed that the mobilisation of public opinion among young people would not only generate awareness but also promote efforts in the sphere of international cooperation for development.
