The Saturday Night’s Main Event witnessed Cody Rhodes defend the Undisputed WWE Championship against Kevin Owens. The fight was an enthralling one and succeeded in impressing the fans. From multiple referees being knocked down to the use of a steel chair, the bout had almost everything it could offer. But the much-talked-about development took place following the battle when the show went off air. After the clash, Owens came with a vicious attack on the American Nightmare and delivered a piledriver. Rhodes was being stretchered out to an ambulance at the backstage. WWE have now provided an update on Rhodes’ fitness and injury scare. It was conveyed Rhodes had suffered cervical swelling and he had to be kept overnight at a local hospital for observation.
“BREAKING: Earlier today it was confirmed that Cody Rhodes suffered cervical swelling and was kept overnight at a local hospital for observation. While X-rays were negative for a fracture, Rhodes has been officially diagnosed with axial compression of the cervical spine, as well as a cervical strain with spasm,” read the post shared by WWE on X (formerly Twitter).

Owens had his version of the incident. After delivering the attack on Rhodes, Owens shared a statement and claimed that he had done it after being “screwed” out of the championship by “incompetent referees.”
“*EXCLUSIVE: After getting screwed out of becoming the Undisputed WWE Champion by incompetent referees, Kevin Owens justifiably gets retribution on The American Person with an often imitated, never truly duplicated, PACKAGE PILEDRIVER just moments after Saturday Night’s Main Event goes off the air to send everyone home happy,” Owens posted on X (formerly Twitter).

Owens’ current contract with WWE will expire next year. Ahead of Saturday Night’s Main Event, Owens joined talkSPORT.com and talked about his status. “I’m happy to be doing this for a living,” he added when questioned further. I’m lucky and grateful to have the chance to go to work and do something I’ve always wanted to do. There’s really nothing else I ever wanted to do for a living, so it’s a privilege that I get to do this every week, absolutely,” Owens said.
“I don’t take anything for granted, ever. I am enjoying what I am doing now, and tomorrow’s never promised,” Owens added.
It is being speculated that Rhodes’ latest rivalry with Owens may get more focus in the near future. Owens’ attack on Rhodes underlines the fact that their feud will go on. It may very well get a larger attention ahead of the next premium live event.
