OpenAI is really pushing ChatGPT across all corners, and now that popular AI chatbot will work on WhatsApp or even your regular phone calls. Yes, ChatGPT is now available on the Meta-owned messaging app, letting you use the chatbot for free in the US region. It is interesting to see OpenAI bring ChatGPT to WhatsApp, when the messaging app already has the Meta AI chatbot available for free.
The company has been on a launch spree which is being spread across 12 days and the WhatsApp chatbot is one of the many it has announced in recent days.
ChatGPT On WhatsApp, Free Call: How It Works And Where
OpenAI has introduced this chatbot for WhatsApp which can be activated using the US number 1-1800-242-8478, and you can use the same number to make a free call to the AI chatbot but only for 15 minutes every month. ChatGPT will work without an account which is understandable for voice calls but it is likely that OpenAI will find some way to integrate ChatGPT with an existing account for WhatsApp users to give them access to their previous chat history. OpenAI assures that ChatGPT will never be the one to initiate a call or start a chat with you on WhatsApp.
While OpenAI has offered the calling service for people in the US and Canada region for now, you can try out the WhatsApp chatbot in all the countries where ChatGPT is supported, including India. We tried out the 1-1800-242-8478 number using our WhatsApp account and where able to access the chatbot on our feed. There is a limit on the number of messages that you can send on WhatsApp as well, and the company will notify when you reach the daily limit.
The WhatsApp chatbot for ChatGPT also has certain limitations in terms of the features supported. OpenAI says you can only have text chats with ChatGPT on the messaging app. But soon you can use a ChatGPT account to enjoy other benefits like ChatGPT Search, chat with images and even have the memory log of all the conversations. You also cannot add ChatGPT to a group chat on WhatsApp.
OpenAI needs more avenues to make ChatGPT reach a wider audience. It has already signed up with Apple to bring ChatGPT on Macs, iPhones and more devices with the iOS 18.2 update. And it looks to build its user base on ChatGPT which invariably helps with the higher valuation for the company.
OpenAI also introduced the Sora AI video generation tool for all users with ChatGPT Plus subscription. The company has also added a new Pro tier which costs $200 (Rs 17,000 approx) per month and gives you better access to ChatGPT with more limits. And finally, we have seen the company announce ChatGPT Search is available to everyone, even those without an account with the platform.
