Tendulkar took to X to congratulate the 21-year-old Spanish tennis player who defeated Novak Djokovic 6-2, 6-2, 7-6 in the Wimbledon 2024 men’s singles final.

Legendary cricketer Sachin Tendulkar took to X (formerly Twitter) to congratulate Spanish tennis player Carlos Alcaraz after he defeated Novak Djokovic in straight sets (6-2, 6-2, 7-6) on Sunday (July 14) to win the Wimbledon 2024 men’s singles final. The 21-year-old had defeated Djoker in the Wimbledon final last year as well.

In the most one-sided men’s singles final of recent times, Alcaraz showed why he is seen as the next superstar of tennis. The win in the final on Sunday also helped him become the sixth male tennis player in history to win the French Open and Wimbledon in the same year.

After Alcaraz successfully defended his Wimbledon title, Tendulkar took to X to post a tweet for the young sensation, which read, “Abse tennis pe ek hi raj karega, who hai Alcaraz. Winning the @Wimbledon finals in straight sets against a world-class opponent is no joke. With that kind of speed, power, placement, and energy, it looks like it’s going to be Advantage @carlosalcaraz in the years to come. Hats off to @DjokerNole for his grace and the way he has conducted himself in victory and in defeat. For me that is the hallmark of a true sportsperson.”

Alcaraz equals the Open Era record for most Grand Slams won at the age of 21 or under, joining Boris Becker, Bjorn Borg, and Mats Wilander. Apart from two Wimbledon titles, he has won one French Open and one US Open title.

“Honestly, it is a dream for me to win this trophy,” said the Spaniard. “I did an interview when I was 11, and I said my dream is to win Wimbledon. For me, this is the most beautiful tournament, the most beautiful court, and the most beautiful trophy.”

After winning his second Wimbledon title, Alcaraz paid tribute to Djokovic, who only found his range in the third set.

“Djokovic is an unbelievable fighter; I knew he was going to have his chances. It was difficult, but I tried to stay calm going into the tiebreak and tried to play my best tennis. I was glad at the end I could find the solutions.”
