Both PV Sindhu and Anupama Upadhayaya suffered defeats in the second round of the women’s singles event at the China Masters.
The experienced PV Sindhu and the young teenage shuttler Anupama Upadhyaya had respective defeats in the second round of the women’s singles event at the China Masters on Thursday.
Sindhu took on Yeo Jia Min from Singapore where the latter took the win in the match which lasted for over an hour. 16-21, 21-17, 21-23.
In Upadhyaya’s case, it was a more dominant display by her opponent, Japan’s Natsuki Nidaira who won the game in straight sets with the scoreline reading 21-7, 21-14.
Among other Indian shuttlers, PV Sindhu takes on 13th-ranked Yeo Jia Min from Singapore as well in the women’s singles division.
After beating the 15th-ranked, Beiwen Zhang from the USA in the previous round, Upadhyaya suffered a straight-set defeat in the next round where her opponent finished the match within 25 minutes.
Nidaira was dominant throughout the match where she gave away just seven points in the first set. But the Indian youngster looked to fight back with a valiant effort scoring 14 points but it wasn’t enough as she was eventually beaten.
In the women’s singles division, Malvika Bansod also takes on the eighth seed Supanida Katethong from Thailand.
In the men’s singles division, Lakshya Sen takes on Denmark’s Rasmus Gemke. The Indian pair of Chirag Shetty and Satwiksairaj Rankireddy are up against the Danish duo of Rasmus Kjaer and Fredrick Sogaard. Finally, in the women’s doubles section, Gayatri Gopichand Pullela and Treesa Jolly go up against Liu Sheng Shu and Tan Ning.
