The overjoyed new parents shared the good news with a social media post, expressing their enthusiasm for this new chapter of their lives. As per reports, Deepika was admitted to Mumbai’s HN Reliance Foundation Hospital on Saturday and is currently under the care of doctors post giving birth. While the joy of having a new amidst the family is immense, one must not ignore the health and well-being of the new mothers.

The postpartum phase is a sensitive time for the new mother, as she is dealing with the pain of delivery while having the responsibility of taking care of a newborn. Therefore getting the right care is very important. Dr. Chetna Jain, Director–Dept of Obstetrics & Gynaecology, Cloudnine Group of hospitals, Gururgram in an interview with The Indian Express said, “During this time, it’s essential that mothers receive the support and care they need—not only for their well-being but also to foster a healthy start for their babies. Unfortunately, as the focus often shifts entirely to the newborn, new mothers can sometimes feel neglected or overwhelmed. Both self-care for mothers and proactive support from those around them are vital.”

Here are a few essential tips for new mothers to heal during postpartum:

Adequate Rest

This is the first and most important thing for new mothers. Mothers need to get as much sleep as possible to combat the exhaustion after giving birth. But the challenge is that your infant will need your attention as well. Make sure you get sleep while the baby is resting. Family members can help by creating a quiet environment for both the mother and child to sleep peacefully.

Eat healthy

New mothers need to have nutritious meals that include whole grains, veggies, fruits and proteins. This will help them in healing and also be beneficial if the mother is breastfeeding. Not just food, new moms should also keep themselves hydrated at all times.

Ask For Help

A safe environment should be created where the mother can rely on others and ask for help to take time out for herself too. Family and friends should help the new mothers with the daily chores so that they can heal faster. Friends and relatives can assist or make meals and also stay with the newborn when the mother is too tired.

Emotional support

Families should be aware of the emotional tendencies of new mothers. While initial baby blues are normal, families must also know the possibility of serious mental health conditions such as postpartum depression. Certain symptoms of postpartum depression include loss of interest in daily tasks, avoiding loved ones, and feelings of shame and worthlessness. In extreme cases, the mothers should consult a therapist to deal with this issue.
