Apple Watch is extremely popular for its health features and more but a smart ring offers different use case.
Apple Watch is one the most popular wearables in the market, and the preferred health device for millions. But it seems the company wants to have another competing product in the wearable space, which explains the rumours about an Apple smart ring making the rounds in the last few months.
Now comes the big question in this situation, does Apple really need a smart ring out there when it has a successful product in its lineup? That point was recently put towards the CEO of Oura, a company which makes smart rings and does it well. The brand competes with a host of first-gen names like Ultrahuman, Gabit, and Samsung among others.
Will Oura see Apple also enter this space and look to steal its thunder anytime soon? The company’s chief feels that Apple’s position or need to launch a smart ring is negligible, simply because it has a smartwatch in the form of Apple Watch doing everything that a smart ring could offer. And he does have a point.
The Apple Watch Series models are available in the market for around $400 (Rs 32,400 approx) and you would expect the Apple smart ring to cost around $350 (Rs 29,500 approx) which is not very far from what you pay for the Apple Watch. In the event that Apple does launch its own smart ring, the company could face the prospect of diluting and cannibalising the sales of the Apple Watch, its most popular product in the market.
Either way, the rumours about Apple launching a smart ring are just that, rumours and speculations. And unless Apple officially talks or hints about a product in this segment, we might never see the company enter this category which will surely be a big relief for brands like Oura and Ultrahuman.
