Sporting Lisbon could end up accepting a bid between 75 million euro and 85 million euro for Viktor Gyokeres.
Sporting Lisbon striker Viktor Gyokeres reportedly has a ‘gentleman’s agreement’ with his club that allows him to leave next summer for a lower transfer fee. The 26-year-old Sweden international’s contract with the Portuguese side ties him to the club until 2028. He has a massive release clause of €100 million in his current deal. The huge sum could be a major hindrance to bigger clubs pursuing the Sporting Lisbon attacker. It is now reported by The Times that the Portuguese side has a mutual agreement with the player that he can depart in the 2025 summer transfer window for less than his current release clause. Times claim Sporting could end up accepting a bid between 75 million euro and 85 million euro for Gyokeres.
Viktor Gyokeres recently underlined his reputation as one of Europe’s most elite strikers after scoring a hattrick against Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City. He matched Lionel Messi in a unique Champions League record. Gyokeres is now only the second footballer to score a hat trick against Manchester City in the UEFA tournament. Messi registered this feat in 2016 which was Pep Guardiola’s first season in charge at the Etihad. Gyokeres’ hat trick garnered the attention of the biggest clubs on the continent. It is also speculated that Premier League giants including Chelsea, Arsenal and Manchester United are currently interested in the striker.
With Ruben Amorim soon leaving for Manchester United, the Sporting Lisbon coach was asked if Viktor Gyokeres could also be on the move to Old Trafford alongside him. However, the Portuguese completely ruled out the possibility of bidding for the Swedish star. “I’ve just made peace with the Sporting fans, so I’m not even going to make a joke about it…Gyokeres is a Sporting player, which is a great club, he did a lot for the club, he was in the second division [of English football]. He just has to stay and finish the season at the club,” Amorim said after the win over Manchester City, as per The Times.
Viktor Gyokeres moved to Sporting Lisbon from Coventry City in the summer of 2023. He signed for a club-record fee of £20 million. Since his arrival, the Swedish forward has netted 66 goals in 67 matches for Sporting Lisbon. He also had a three-year spell with Brighton and Hove Albion. In his previous campaign in the Primeira Liga, Gyokeres was the league’s top scorer with 29 goals.
