Guru Purnima will be observed across the world on July 21. On this day, the chosen spiritual or academic gurus are worshipped and honoured by their followers. It is celebrated on the full moon day of Ashadh month. Guru Purnima is also known as Vyas Purnima as it marks the birthday of Veda Vyas, a sage who wrote Mahabharata. According to Hindi Panchang, a culmination of several yogas is formed during Guru Purnima. Astrologer Pandit Sanjay Upadhyay of Kashi said that this year, Sarvartha Siddhi Yoga is being formed on the day of Guru Purnima.

Sarvartha Siddhi Yoga is a specific kind of Yoga that is created when certain nakshatras fall on a specific day of the week. The combination of these nakshatras is considered auspicious for carrying out new activities or business. It is believed that any new venture during this time will result in success. Sarvartha Siddhi Yoga will remain throughout the day on Sunday, July 21. According to the Hindu calendar, the Ashadh Purnima Tithi will begin on July 20 at 5:09 pm and will continue till 3:56 pm on the next day, July 21.

On Guru Purnima, bathing in the Ganges and doing charity work is deemed important by many Hindu devotees. On this day, after bathing in the Brahma Muhurta in the morning, one should touch the feet of their parents, considering them as Guru, added Pandit Sanjay Upadhyay of Kashi. During this, flowers should also be offered at their feet. It helps in overcoming the present troubles or obstacles in your life. The festival of Guru Purnima is celebrated for the attainment of knowledge and self-knowledge.

According to astrologer Pandit Shridhar Shastri, Guru Purnima is an important festival as he believes that Gurus can take a person out of the darkness. In Buddhism, the festival is celebrated by Buddhists in honour of Buddha. In yogic tradition, this day is celebrated as the day when Lord Shiva became the first Guru. This festival promotes the Guru-Shishya tradition.

In Hinduism, Sage Veda Vyas has been given the status of Maha Guru. Worshipping him on this day holds special importance.
